You are not locked in to your certification body. A transfer usually lets you move without restarting the certification cycle.
What can be transferred
In general, a certificate can be transferred if it is valid (not suspended or withdrawn), the standard and scope fall within the new certification body’s capabilities, and any major nonconformities are closed.
Step by step
- Request a transfer quote with your current certificate, scope, sites and headcount.
- Pre-transfer review of your certificate, last audit reports and open nonconformities.
- Transfer decision and a new certificate for the remainder of your cycle.
- Continue the cycle with the next scheduled audit.
Documents to prepare
| Document | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|
| Current certificate | Confirms validity, scope and dates |
| Last certification or recertification report | Shows the full system was assessed |
| Latest surveillance report | Shows recent conformity |
| Open nonconformities and action plans | Shows nothing is left unresolved |
Check before you switch
- Recognition: confirm the certificate you will hold meets your customers’ requirements, including any accreditation requirement. See our Accreditation page.
- Notice period: check your current agreement.
- Timing: avoid transferring just before a surveillance audit is due.
