Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a set of controls that make sure products are consistently produced and controlled to quality standards. GMP certification gives customers and export markets independent evidence that your premises, people and processes meet a recognized GMP framework.
Who Needs GMP Certification
Manufacturers of food, food supplements, cosmetics, packaging and related products whose customers, distributors or importing markets ask for independent GMP evidence.
What We Audit
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Premises and equipment | Layout, hygiene zoning, maintenance, cleaning, pest control |
| Personnel | Training, hygiene, health, protective clothing |
| Documentation | Specifications, batch records, procedures, record control |
| Production | Process controls, cross-contamination prevention, labeling |
| Quality control | Testing, release, deviations, complaints, recalls |
| Materials | Supplier approval, receipt, storage, traceability |
The GMP framework used depends on your product, for example ISO 22716 for cosmetics or a recognized food GMP code.
The Process
Application and product review → route confirmation → document review → on-site audit during production → correction of nonconformities → independent certification decision → certificate and online listing → periodic surveillance.
Limitations
Where GMP is regulated by law, for example for medicines, GMP compliance is inspected by regulatory authorities. A USGSR GMP certificate does not replace regulatory licensing or inspection.
